QUESTION & ANSWERS
Q.Some other charter companies I have checked out are cheaper? Why should I fish with you Captain Len?
A.Our philosophy is to run our boat quickly out to where the fish are. This usually involves burning more fuel in order to get the maximum fishing time for the client. Some companies have single-engine diesel “smokers” that start trolling immediately when you get out of the jetties. Sometimes the fish are 10 miles run! By the time you get there you have missed the morning bite.
Q.Do I have to pay for the whole charter up front?
A.We take a 50% deposit at the time of booking. You can pay the balance the day of the charter.
Q.What is the departure time?
A.Half day morning leaves the dock at 6:30am and returns at 11am. Half day afternoon leaves at 12pm and returns at 4:30 pm.
Q.What’s the slip number at Gone Fishing?
Q.Can I fly my plane close to Gone fishing Marina?
A.Yes, Montauk Airport (KMTP) is located across the street from the marina.
Q.How much should we tip the mate?
A.That’s up to you, but the standard tip for the mate is 15% of the charter, depending on how happy you are. Make sure you give it to the captain, and he will pass it all to the mate.
Q.I want to go to a restaurant and have them cook the fish I just caught. Will they do that?
A.Sure most places in Montauk will do that for you. Wok and Roll in Montauk comes to mind.
Q.I have some pictures. Will you post them?
A.YES! YES! Please email them to my marketing guy.
Q.What do I need to bring?
A.Bring sunglasses, sun block and some cash to tip the mate. We have all the rods and reels you will need. If you bring food and drink, please bring some for the crew. They get hungry too.
Q.Are there motels in the area?
A.Yes there are plenty of motels in the area. My suggestion is to book one at the time you book your charter. The Montauk Chamber of Commerce will be glad to help and I have included a link. www.montaukchamber.com/browse/4/accommodations
Q.If we catch some fish, can I take it with me?
A.Absolutely! They are all yours!
Q.What happens if I have to cancel the booking? Do I lose my deposit?
A.If you cancel the booking and you give us 14 days notice, we will refund your deposit. In the event of a port-closure due to weather or act of God, we will refund your deposit in full.
Q.Specifically, what types of equipment do you have?
A.All equipment is tournament grade and excellently maintained. The off shore rods are custom made locally and the reels are Penn. Frankly, we have a big investment in our boat and tackle, so believe me they are watched over carefully.
Q.What kind of emergency equipment do you have on board?
A.We are equipped with an EPIRB (gps satellite locator), offshore life raft, halon fire extinguisher system, life jackets, and radio to contact US Coast Guard.
